Assessment and Diagnosis

An assessment of the relevant factors (eg. mood, behaviour, social factors, health etc.) is made initially. Consultation with other professionals, such as the family doctor,or a childs teacher may be requested. Assessment may involve the use of psychometric tests.

This provides the information necessary to develop a treatment plan. It also provides a basis for assessing the progress made during therapy.

Therapy

Therapy is planned in consultation with the client. Consideration of desired outcomes, cost and duration can be taken into account. Reading or video material may be provided as an addition to therapy. Prompt return would be appreciated.

I am trained in cognitive-behavioural therapy and am familiar with a variety of other theoretical approaches. I have received training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing).

Cancellation of Appointment

Please advise of cancellations as soon as possible. A fee for late cancellation, ie. within 24 hours, or non-attendance.

Introducing Myself

I was born and grew up in Eastern Southland.

I studies psychology and education, graduating from Otago University with an Honours degree in 1978.

After working for a year as a nurse aide at Ashburn Hall, a private psychiatric hospital in Dunedin, I returned to university to study clinical psychology. I completed a masters of Science and Diploma of Clinical Psychology in 1983.

Upon completing my training and becoming a Registered Psychologist, I worked at the family Health Counselling Centre in Oamaru until 1991. I worked with a wide range of people, from children to the elderly with a broad range of difficulties.
